Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing angels, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in power within the city.
Note: Key plot points for Episode 3 of this adventure are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
Episode 3 concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the first table of characters who will separate from the main group to undertake their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team consists of Teor (brought to life by Travis), Thimble (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
The Reason for Division
Given a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
Hence, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Strategists, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Initially, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might look unsuited, but the events of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
First, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a intense initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise started the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.
Casimir then settled his debts and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each character has a individual motive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with Timmony and advises that it is a nasty place.
- The strong character and Wicander, having disobeyed his house’s orders to kill the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could enable the team access places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, The fighter swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his deliverance and will now accompany him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that govern Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- Thimble and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- The warrior and The healer defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This results in them few options but to head to Timmony in search of Casimir.
